I believe that good design based on a creative interpretation of the author’s ideas fosters rich inspiring productions. The clothing, settings and lighting must be integral to the scene. These are the framework for the actions as they can, where appropriate, exaggerate and enhance the meanings of the words spoken, the songs sung and the movements executed on stage.
I enjoy a successful career as a creative theatre, film, architectural and graphic designer. I’ve led high performing design teams, at both strategic and operational levels while delivering award winning projects. I have been recognised as repeatedly and reliably having excelled in the realisation of sets, costumes, props, marketing material and websites.
Scenographic Designs for a diverse range of productions covering set, props, projection, graphics and costume conceptualising, making and building have been warmly received by critics, audiences and theatre professionals. My achievements include designing the critically acclaimed depression era circus drama The Duchess of Malfi at The Charing Cross Theatre, the Victorian Dorian Gray at the Leicester Square Theatre and an Edwardian interpretation for The Othello Syndrome, which retells Shakespeare’s classic tale from the abused Desdemona’s perspective, staged at the Drayton Arms Theatre. I’ve worked on Chicago productions of Godspell, set within several city parks’ baseball diamonds as well as touring productions of Naked Boys Singing and Falsettos . I have developed designs for a number of musical premiers including Napoleon Noir at the Loft and Shaw Theatres as well as for Psister Psycho at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which received a Chortle Award and was subsequently broadcast on BBC Three’s Comedy Shuffle. I was both the production and costume designer on the short dystopian film The Death Certificate which garnished praise at a number of international festivals.
Experience in Producing Shows includes work on The Duchess of Malfi, Napoleon Noir, The Just at The White Bear and Still I See My Baby, London 4 Corners 1 Heart all at Theatre 503.
Developmental Theatrical Workshops have facilitated the nurturing of young talent. I worked with playwright J. Parkes and drama students from the East 15 Acting School in the realisation of Tales of Aviation Heroes. My creative input has been welcomed by writer and director Dan Horrigan in designing several new writing projects at The Cockpit, Drayton Arms Theatre and Theatre 503. I assisted in the creation of the staging and accompanying exhibition for The Last Women performed at the B2 Theatre in Coventry; it is a startling poignant work commemorating the historical local females who were executed in the city.
Collaborative Working and Relationship Management is a key to my success. I facilitate maximising positive experiences with fellow producers, directors, choreographers, musicians, actors, lighting designers and stage management teams. My leadership has led and inspired a range of professionals on both large and small scale projects.
Organisational and Management Skills have ensured successful completions of projects. I have consistently delivered work on schedule while meeting the constraints of tight budgets.
Designing as a Senor Associate Architect Partner, in an acclaimed international practice in London and New York, I served to develop conceptual ideas and detail designs for award winning static and movable structures. I have created designs for theatres, cinemas, museums, universities, offices, housing, retail centres, skyscrapers and urban redevelopment masterplans. These buildings are located in Europe, North America and Asia in London, Glasgow, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Brussels, Amsterdam, Katowice, New York, Chicago, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Graphic Designs for websites, corporate identities, logos, architectural monographs, posters, programs and tickets have been commended by clients and audiences. I am proud to have produced the competition winning stained-glass window design which celebrates Equity’s 75th anniversary. It is now installed at the Mechanics Institute in Manchester. Extensive Computer Experience assists me with AutoCAD and Microstation 3D modelling and animation, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, and Dreamweaver programs.
